The Emperor Jahangir built a residence for himself at Pushkar. This residence at Pushkar is on the margin of the lake, near the cremation ground, behind the Jodhpur ghat. This residence now consists of two identical pavilions, made of red sandstones. These pavilions were built in 1022 A.H. (1615 CE) under the supervision of Anup Singh Dalan. The walls of the chamber have square and rectangular niches. On the westerns wall of the southern pavilion, an inscription engraved above the door mentions the date of its construction. This trabeated palace, basically modelled on traditional Mughal prototypes, probably relied on local labour, thus explaining its unrefined appearance.
Jahangir writes in his memoirs that he visited Pushkar more than fifteen times and that several alterations which were made at his instance in the building at Pushkar. An epigraph at the premises mentions the name of Ani Rai Singh Dalan, whose real name was Anup singh and Rai & Dalan title were conferred on him by Jahangir on account of his exhibiting doubtless courage in encountering a wounded tiger.
