TOMB OF ALLAUDDIN KHAN KNOWN AS SOLA THUMBA

GENRAL VIEW

It is a tomb built by Shaikh- Ala-ud-din 1659 CE near the Tripolia gate also known as Solah Thumba. The mausoleum is situated near the Tripolia gate in Ajmer. The Sheikh was a religious dignitary during the reign of Mughal emperor Shahajahan.

The Mausoleum is known as Solha Khamba, as the dome of the mausoleum rests on 16 pillars. These pillars stand in the center of a rectangle. Two pillars stand at each corner making the number of pillars 24 in all. The building is made of white marble stone, which has now lost its original color and has become somewhat yellowish. Its plan is rectangular, covering an area of 40 x 20 feet. It is open on three sides and closed on the west where three blind arches are made on a wall on the inner side. The mausoleum contains five graves on which religious verses are inscribed. There is zigzag pattern of black inlay running from the ground to the top. The work of ornamentation or adornment seems to have been left incomplete due to some reason.

The pillars which support the dome are square in plan but octagonal along the shaft. The arches are of cusped type. The middle arch is bigger while those on its left and right are small in breadth. The heavy dome has prismatic design at its soffit. There is an inscription in Persian language inscribed on a stone slab fixed in the center of the eastern wall of the outer side. it is written in nastaliq characters and records the construction of the mausoleum by Shiekh Allauddin in A.H. 1070 (1659 CE). The gist of inscription is as under - "Khwaja Muin-ud-Din Chisti is the asylum of the community and faith, his dargah is second to Mecca".
